Ecological station of San Lorenzo

San Lorenzo is a small shelter in the cloud forest, shrubs and pines of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Located on the hill of San Lorenzo, a mountainous elevation where the Water Star forms, in which seven rivers of great importance for the region are born: the Guachaca, Córdoba, Toribio, Gaira, Manzanares, Piedras and Mendihuaca, at 2,240 meters above sea level. And a sea that can be observed from that height.

It is a viewpoint that has an excellent logistical infrastructure with cabins, auditorium, meteorological station, ecological trails for the observation of fauna, interpretive trails, flora and scenic beauty, waterfalls, view of the Nevados Bolívar and Colón peaks, indigenous settlements and the development of research activities, environmental education and ecotourism.
Excellent place to rest, walk and breathe true air.

The San Lorenzo Experimental Station, with cabins built by the now extinct INDERENA in the 70s in order to allow the experimentation of reforestation with pine trees in the area, is why it has been named Experimental Station of San Lorenzo, a project that after years has failt, it is outside the Park and in his area of influence, is managed by National Natural Parks of Colombia . Today its main goal is to be a space to promote environmental education and knowledge of biodiversity in partnership with universities in the region.
